The Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Wexford, Ireland, are a closed order of nuns, living a contemplative life, in the Perpetual Adoration convent Bride Street adjoined to the church of the Assumption.
The Adoration Convent was founded in 1887 and has been in constant use ever since. The historic building, home to 10 nuns ranging in age from 63 to 97, is deceivingly large inside. Huge religious paintings adorn its beautiful hallways; religious figures are present in every room.
Life in the convent runs to a meticulous timetable. For 137 years they had unbroken adoration day and night but with number of elderly nuns unable to commit to the number of hours required they have had to limit their time.
With the last nun entering the convent in 1980, the decline in vocations is an understandable concern for the Sisters, but they believe it is still a problem that can be overcome.
